Good Afternoon.

“Children learn as they play. Most importantly, in play children learn how to learn.” ~O. Fred Donaldson

We have a few different loose parts activities to engage in throughout the classroom and we find them interesting and we tend to find different ways to play with them.

Today Jack grabbed out the Bucket people with different colors and the small multi-colored bowls from the same shelf. While he was working with both sets he realized that he could match the bucket people with the colors of the small bowls. He then placed the people into the bowls and said, “Look Mar-Mar, my people match with the bowls.”

Evie was very helpful to Miss Annastecia today during our outdoor play!

The last couple of days Annastecia has been getting our garden area prepped for planting and Evie thought it would fun to help her out. The two of them worked together and  planted Marigold flowers.

Good Afternoon.

“For children, PLAY is as natural as breathing- AND AS NECESSARY. ~Mimi Brodsky Chenfeld

This morning Miss Rebekah offered our friends a water color and crayon art activity. Of course, they were all very excited and eager to join in and see what she had in store for them today. Smile

Miss Rebekah showed them that when they color on a sheet of white paper with a white crayon and then take the water color paints over those marks something magical would appear. After friends were done painting they would see those   white marks they previously drew on their paper. How cool is that?

You can find these oh so cool paintings in your child’s art cubby today.

Good Sunny Afternoon!! What a gorgeous day.

“Play is our brain’s favorite way of learning.” ~Diane Ackerman

Jack and his dad introduced a very fun gross motor activity of climbing onto the habi-trail ladder and jumping off into his arms.

We all decided that it would be fun for us to try it too, we did… and LOVED it!! Thanks for the awesome idea Ben and Jack. Smile

Today was a great day to play peek-a-boo with the fish and even our friends.

Yesterday afternoon one of the Wee Friender’s asked for the sidewalk chalk, so teachers got it out and all the kids had a blast!

Today, we decided to continue with all the chalk fun and excitement. We draw on the concrete paths and the big chalkboard on the side of the Wee Wee garage. We not only have fun drawing with the chalk but we also learn a valuable lesson on following teachers directions and not drawing on any of the wood areas.  (ie the deck area.) We all did a fabulous job!!!

Good Afternoon!

K/PREK1 filled in a web by sharing two things that they, along with their family, spend money on. We saw several similarities as well as a few differences. Lucy shared that she and her family spend money on food and water because “they help us survive”

Social Studies: K.4.1 Explain that people work to earn money to buy the things they want. Introduce money names and values.

Members of PREK2 used the money wheel provided. Once they completed their spin, they had to find the coins in the piggy bank that matched the coins on the space they landed on. Once they collected the coins from the piggy bank, they sorted the coins into four categories: dime, quarter, penny, and nickel.

Good Afternoon and Happy Monday!

“Development can only take place when children are actively involved, when they are occupied with a high, non stop degree of concentration, when they are interested, when they give themselves completely, when they use all their (mental) abilities to invent and make new things and when this gives them a high degree of satisfaction and pleasure. ~Ferre Laevers

We began our day utilizing our fine motor and hand-eye coordination skills by working on many different styles of puzzles with different amounts of difficulty. We all had a wonderful time.

DSCN5257DSCN5267DSCN5259DSCN5268

During our time outside we spent quite a bit of time searching for bugs. With the wetness of the play area they were wiggling all around.

Friends love searching for all sorts of bugs to place in their bug catchers so we can explore them and watch them try to get out of the catcher.

Happy Monday!

**Reminder: Wee Friends will be closed on Monday, May 27th.

This week, our FAB focuses on money and what it’s used for as well as identifying coins. We put all of that together during K/PREK1 time.

After reading ‘Makeup Mess’ by Robert Munsch, which centers around the main character buying makeup with her money stash, we used our coin knowledge to identify each coin that was on the chalkboard. After we identified each coin, we worked together to add the coins together.

Lucy and Maxwell had completed a similar activity during their kindergarten sign in so they took the reigns during group time and shared how to add the coin values together.

Social Studies: K.4.1 Explain that people work to earn money to buy the things they want. Introduce money names and values.

DSCN9731

PREK2 group shopped at the ‘Pinkalicious Store’ after reading the matching book! Each item was worth a specific amount of money. As a group, they read the values together and had to decide where each coin went.

DSCN1804DSCN1809

We were anxious to get working on our starters! We’ll hopefully plant them in the next couple of weeks.

DSCN9685DSCN9689

We’ve found that when one friend requests a puzzle, several other peers show interest and follow suit.

Mack completed a 24 piece puzzle and shared, “I finished it! It’s ‘cause I’m getting bigger.”

Friends LOVE a good challenge.

Happy Friday! I hope you all had a great week.

“Just because I can’t talk doesn’t mean I have nothing to say.” ~Reggio

Today teachers re-introduced the moon sand into our sensory bin and the kids were so excited. They couldn’t wait to get digging, scooping, and pouring!

We added in spoons, cups, measuring cups, bowls, and a few more fun items to enhance the joy of our play! It’s a messy but FUN activity. Smile We love messes… that just means we are enjoying our play to the fullest.

While some of us were still engaged in the moon sand Miss Rebekah made a tape track for our cars and trucks.

Jack lined all of his cars up in a row and then decided to park them in certain spots. While Zoe and another friend zoomed them along the track.

Happy Friday!

Our friends seek connections at almost every turn. Whether it’s realizing that they have the same boots, live in the same city, or shop at the same grocery store, simple connections are made every day.

We’ve driven to the farm multiple times and pass Martin’s every single time. During every single trip, friends have the same conversation:

“Hey, that’s my Martin’s!”

“Hey! That’s my Martin’s too!”

Enjoy a short Teacher Tom blog post about this topic!
