Good Afternoon!

“It is important that students bring a certain ragamuffin, barefoot irreverence to their studies; they are not here to worship what is known, but to question it.”

Good Afternoon All.

“The wider range of possibilities we offer children, the more intense will be their motivations and the richer their experiences.” ~Loris Malaguzzi

Please Note: I am very sorry for the inconvenience, but there will be no link to the photo album today as we are experiencing some issues. We hope that the problem will soon be resolved. Thank you for your understanding and patience on this matter.

Miss Annastecia offered our friends a really neat and exciting art activity this morning and we LOVED it. We first took water color paint and painted our trays, then lay down a piece of white paper and patted it down into the water color. We then had our finished product of Rainy Window Prints. You can find your child’s creation hanging around the classroom.

Good Afternoon.

Friends have really been enjoying the sing a long teacher stories.

We have been reading/singing along to… Shoo fly don’t bother me, Row Row Your Boat, The Itsy Bitsy Spider, The Wheels on the Bus and more! Adding in singing to our story times always makes for a great time, and teachers LOVE to hear and see the enthusiasm and excitement in the children’s voices and faces when they sing along. Smile

Good Afternoon!

“Times have changed. But children haven’t. Young kids are on the same evolutionary path they’ve always been on. It’s our expectations that are off. We’re trying to make children ready for the next stage of life before natural development allows them to be ready. It’s like expecting ten-year-old’s to drive a car safely, or expecting a four-month-old to walk.”

Happy Monday!

While reading ‘Mrs. McNosh and the Great Big Squash’ in K/PREK1, we discussed what a gardener needs to do his or her job. This lead into a conversation about four specific professions: dentist, teacher, farmer, and doctor. First, friends worked together to come up with a description about what each profession does. Then, we made a list naming the items or tools each professional needs to do their job.

We started off by discussing what teachers need to do their job. After naming tools like pen and pencil, a five year old friend shared, “Teachers need energy, right?! So they need sleep and tons of energy.”

Social Studies: K.4.2 Identify and describe different kinds of jobs that people do and the tools they use.

In PREK2, children came up to the easel to draw a line between each profession and the tool they need to do their job. Our background knowledge of several of these professions was evident. When Miss Kim asked her group, “What is the person called that makes coffee?”, a friend responded, “Coffier.”

Our science area has gotten a makeover these last few weeks. Children explored our newly put together area as well as the toys are that offered. When friends walked in the door, they shared their thoughts as well as pointed out everything new that they saw!

Happy Friday!

Lucy’s kindergarten sign in tricked down to our three year old’s! Friends took the Lego maze and had to find a path for the marble. They put the marble at one opening and the goal was to find a path to the other opening.

DSCN9283DSCN9284

We were able to extend this activity for our older friends. Penny and Lucy took the marble maze and held it with two hands. Using balance and a little finesse, they moved the marble throughout the maze.

We had an awesome painting sensory experience today. We started off painting with green paint onto paper and then that quickly turned into painting the table green. Why just stick to painting paper when we can have even more fun painting the table?!?!
