Good Afternoon!

K/PREK1 children focused on seeing another person’s perspective during our group time. We read ‘The Tale of Two Beasts’ which focuses on two main characters. It is told from the little girl’s point of view who finds a beast in the woods and takes him home. Then the exact same story is told from the beasts’ perspective with the illustrations matching throughout the story.

After the story was finished, we talked about seeing a situation from someone else’s point of view. Maxwell said, “Yeah like when my parents carry me. They think they’re helping me but I want to walk by myself.”

As we were talking about this, Lucy said, “I can see why the beast was upset. He was happy even though the girl thought he was sad and lonely.”

PREK2 friends made predictions about which animals traveled slowest to quickest. After they made their predictions, Miss Kim told them the actual speed of each animal before placing the animals into the correct order.

DSCN1764

Max started exploring different speeds and angles by using various cardboard tubes in the habitrail. He placed two cardboard tubes next to each other, one longer and one shorter. We used two marbles and had races to see which marble came out first. Before we let go of the marbles, we guessed which marble would come out of its tube first.

DSCN1710DSCN1713

After, we constructed a cardboard track that had two different pieces. First, we used a marble which was successful! We started talking about another items we could try on the track. We came to the conclusion that the items should be round. We went on a hunt throughout the environment to find round items to test out. Children found a puff ball, a rock, and because we were so interested..a car!

All of these didn’t work because they weren’t completely round. We talked about why it wasn’t successful as a group and were able to come up with conclusions about our experiment.

Good Afternoon!

Zoom is one of our favorite Robert Munsch stories. During our K/PREK1 group time, we read Zoom and discussed important events that occurred. The main character, Lauretta, goes through the process of getting a new wheelchair. She tests out wheelchairs with different speeds. They each end up being too slow!

After the story was finished, we created a web with other ‘action’ or ‘motion’ words that we know. “Well, slow and fast are the opposite of each other!”, shared a friend as we jotted down each thought.

PREK2 children categorized animals into two groups: fast and slow. Each animal was discussed, specifically how fast or slow they move.

Good Afternoon.

“Every day may not be good, but there is something good in every day.” ~ Pinterest.com

The rain and dreary weather did not keep us down today! We were so excited to play in some cardboard boxes from our GFS food order.

At first inspection of the boxes, friends decided to climb right in and see if their bodies would fit. Then we added in our baby dolls and last but not least… the MOST fun we found was stripping the tape off the boxes. We worked hard on taking that tape off and were very satisfied with our end result. Who would have thought boxes could bring so much happiness!?!?

Good Rainy Afternoon.

“Teachers who love teaching, Teach children who love learning.” ~ Unknown

We beat out the rainy day blue’s by engaging in the dot markers.

These are brand new and full of vibrant colors that we used on coffee filters to make spring time flowers. You can find them hanging on the windows throughout the classroom. Smile

We built with the colorful big blocks today in the gross motor area. We built them two high and decided it would be fun to test out our bravery and jump off of them onto the floor. Some of us had to build ourselves up to take the jumping plunge, but then once our confidence was strong enough… we jumped the day away!!

Happy Friday!

Worth Everything’ is the title of the newest blog post by Teacher Tom. After reading it, I thought, “Wow, that sounds absolutely fantastic and SO WORTH IT.”

Children who have been at Wee Friends know our expectations of them: for how they treat their teachers, their peers, and how they conduct themselves. As children get older, they should be able to rationalize, use their words, and have better impulse control. Now, I’m an adult and still have difficulties doing these things one hundred percent of the time. But, we work with our kids by modeling how to talk to each other along while role playing in good times and challenging times. Children are going to argue over the newest toy or have a heated discussion about a rude comment that was made. Our job as teachers is to make sure that we equip children with the words and strategies to solve problems that may come their way.

“Moments later a girl took hold of the trapeze bar, preparing to take flight, when another girl attempted to push her out of the way. “Hey, I’m using this!” She shouted. Again, I might have moved closer earlier in the year, but now we are nearing the end of our time together as a class, so I stayed where I was, confident in their capabilities.”

Good Afternoon and Happy Friday!

“IN EARLY CHILDHOOD YOU MAY LAY THE FOUNDATION OF POVERTY OR RICHES, INDUSTRY OF IDLENESS, GOOD OR EVIL, BY THE HABITS TO WHICH YOU TRAIN YOUR CHILDREN. TEACH THEM RIGHT HABITS THEN, AND THEIR FUTURE LIFE IS SAFE.” ~ LYDIA SIGOURNEY

Our friends decided this morning was the perfect morning to play some good ole hide and seek.

All four friends would hide under the habi-trail area trying to seek one another out. Then one or two would go on top of the habi-trail while others would then scurry off underneath again waiting to be found. They engaged nicely and worked out any bumps into one another they encountered using their wonderful problem-solving skills. Smile

Later in the day we listened to music. We came across many interactive songs that we love! We absolutely love listening to music, but when we can add in movement with our bodies in a different way than normal we love it even more.

One of our favorites is where we use our pointer finger to locate different area on our bodies. Miss Marty joined in and had some fun using her pointer finger to locate the areas of friends bodies along with her own. At the end of the song, we all wave bye-bye!!
