WF Monday 3/24 Who What Where

007

Literacy FAB K.3.5 Understand what is heard or seen by responding to questions: Who? What? Where?

We began our day with uppercase letter “W”.  What letter is this? Why is called a “double-u”? What does double mean?

We brainstormed the reasons why one of our amaryllis plants was found this morning, on it’s side, on the big fluffy pillow in the reading area.

014

Whose flower is this? Why is it drooping?

020

It’s time to say goodbye to our watercolor/flower experiment. Please follow these THREE directions:

  • Throw the flower in the trash
  • Pour the water into the sink
  • Give your vase to Lisa

026

Where is the mechanism that makes our lazy Susan spin? what do we use to make out tops spin? Where are other pointy objects that might spin? 030

We are turning our classroom upside down this week, working with three big “W” words: Who? What? and Where?

Congratulations, Big Brother Owen, on the arrival of your new baby sister, Anna! We can’t wait to hear all about her! Please tell your mom and dad and grandparents we are thinking of them and sending great thoughts!!!

We are continuing to feed our bears information about bears. Today we learned about the Moon bear and Polar bear.

002

“Buckaroo” has become a favorite game for many friends. If you pile too many things on the donkey’s back, it will kick up and buck you! We like this game when we are learning about sharing and gentle touches.

We’ve ended our week peacefully and hope you have too. –Laurie

Hello!

As Nora walked in the door today, she was welcomed by the sound of music. She took a shaker tube in her hand and joined in! Children worked with differing objects within the tubes such as bells, feathers, foam shapes, beads, and bouncy balls. All have different weight and make different sounds.

Eren and Nora sat down at the table and worked with number boards and pegs. They each took multiple number boards and put pegs into each one. As they were putting the pegs into the board, we counted “one, two, three…” together! Once we filled the boards, we took the pegs out and put them back into the basket. Again, we counted as high as we could go!

IMG_6731IMG_6733IMG_6740

Once we were done with the number boards, we got out letters and traced the sparkly letters with our fingers. For each letter, we talked about a word that started with that specific letter. For example, ‘apple’ for A. It’s important to use words that friends are familiar with so they can connect their current knowledge to the present.

For breakfast, children had chex and banana. Lunch consisted of cheese and refried bean filled pita sandwiches, pears, and corn. PM snack was raisins and string cheese.

Have a terrific evening!

WF 3/20 “No, I’m not an octopus.”

006007

We celebrated the first day of spring by reading Thumbelina. Then we created flower petals.

016

We are still interested in bears. So we re-read We’re Going On a Bear Hunt and invited Bernie the Bear to come and answer some bear questions. His first answer was “Umm, no, I’m not an octopus.” Then we went on our own bear hunt.

035

A large group of friends worked at climbing UP the pole. “Why is it easier to climb up the pole without socks than with socks?”. As friends got to the top, they counted how many seconds they were able to hang there. One friend counted to 100.

Good Afternoon!

Lucy and Maya cooked up some french toast this morning in the kitchen while Lulu and her friends spent time on the habitrail. Friends choose activities that they like. It allows them to be fully invested in their play because it’s what they want to do.

IMG_6613IMG_6619IMG_6616

Friends headed into the kitchen where we painted with multiple colors. They were given the opportunity to free paint.

Once they were done with free paint, we ‘stepped’ into Spring (at least we hope so!) Smile🙂

While we were waiting for our friends to wake up from nap, the babies hung out around the habitrail. We went up the slide, under the habitrail, and over the toys.

Wednesday 3/19 Eve’s Bear

004

On Monday, Eve shared with us that she was a baby Panda bear. She invited a teacher to be the mommy. They sat outside on a cuddly tree basking in the sunshine. Today, when Eve came to school, she told us that there was a bear in her house this morning. She said it came through the window and ran into the living room. She chased it outside and then it ran to Wee Friends. So here’s what we did this morning:

  1. We read Going on a Bear Hunt by Michael Rosen
  2. We found a book about bears in our science library and invited friends to explore “What does a bear look like?”
  3. We created bear drama by draping a cloth over the table and inviting friends to first, hibernate, then emerge and smell the spring earth. Mel played “Are You Sleeping (Leo Bear)” on the piano.
  4. We set out three bowls. One bowl held wet earth. The other two, pinto beans and Mexican sand (thanks, Sloaners!) We blind folded friends and invited them to explore what a bear might smell when she emerged from her winter den. Many friends chose the pinto beans.

We are waking up to spring and exploring EVERYTHING!

Hope you are enjoying your day. Eve’s bear is still in the house, eating a yummy lunch of peanut butter sandwich, orange slice and fresh spring carrots.

Happy Tuesday!

We started out our day with a little bang bang on the drums. Lucy, Tate, and Maya loved making music together this morning!

IMG_6442IMG_6445IMG_6446

A friend requested to get the tunnel out. ALL of our friends loved the choice!

IMG_6447IMG_6452IMG_6466

Tate and Eren had each other cracking up while inside the tunnel! It resonated throughout the entire house Smile.

IMG_6457IMG_6462IMG_6463

We also incorporated one of our favorite games into the tunnel activity: peek-a-boo!

IMG_6474IMG_6478IMG_6490

We got our gross motor juices flowing which lead into friends retrieving the slide/stair combo.

IMG_6526IMG_6525

We stretched and bended our bodies. It allowed for our friends to be active and get their bodies moving which is always a good thing!

IMG_6530IMG_6535

IMG_6542IMG_6536

Throughout the morning and afternoon, we played with baby dolls, animals, and camped out in the kitchen. We are becoming wonderful chefs!

IMG_6545IMG_6552IMG_6554

For breakfast, children had cheesy eggs and oranges. Lunch consisted of cheese filled tortillas, mixed vegetables, and pears. PM snack was pretzels and cheddar cheese slices.

Hope everyone is able to enjoy today’s weather! Smile

WF Tuesday 3/18

021

The swimmers returned and spilled out into the sunshine with the other Wee Friends. Before they jumped into their play, they stopped and gave Mel a blow-by-blow of their swimming adventures. Here’s some of what was shared:

“I swam the length of the pool!”

“I dove down to the bottom of the deep end and got a nickel AND I get to keep it!”

“I jumped into the deep end TWO TIMES!”

“I held a noodle and kicked my feet!”

Back at school, we invited Wee Friends to sort soft blocks by color. We counted the number of like colored blocks and we built structures with them. Then we sorted by color AND shape.

WF Monday 3/17

002

Welcome to Wee friends, Samantha! We are excited to have you aboard!

This week we we are asking the question: Why? (This week, both Literacy and Math FABS reflect this idea!)

And here are some of the questions we asked:

  • How did the Duck get stuck in the muck?
  • Why don’t you want to get your hands dirty?
  • Why does the shaving cream smell so good?
  • Why does it feel warmer outside then it actually is?
  • why does Eve’s Hebrew book start at “the back”?
  • How do ballerinas form second position?

026

We are looking for the answers to questions this week. We are exploring reason and

how to organize information in side our brains and out!

What questions do you have for your Wee Friend today?

Happy Monday-Laurie

Wee Sprouts: Carrots. Breakfast: Whole wheat toast and apple slices. Lunch: Whole wheat pasta with beef, peas and orange slices. Snack: Cheese and crackers.
