Happy Valentine’s Day!

We read, ‘101 Dalmatians’ in K/PREK1 group. Afterwards, each group member got one illustration from the book. We all formed a circle and shared the illustration that everyone had. Together, they worked to put the illustrations into the order in which they occurred in the book!

K.1.4: Identify and order events that take place in a sequence.

It was all about self love and showing others love today! An art activity was set up at the art table where children used various paint colors to dot their paper heart using an eye dropper. Once they were done, they folded the heart into half to make prints on both sides.

While they were doing this activity, Miss Annastecia was writing down things that children loved about themselves. Some answers were:

“I am beautiful.”

“I am a good big brother.”

“I am helpful.”

“I have a kind heart.”

It can be challenging for children to show self love as well as  talking about what characteristics or personality traits that make them who they are. But after talking about things that we can love about ourselves, most children were able to come up with an amazing example!

Happy Valentine’s Day! I hope you are all having a great day.

Today, friends were VERY excited about handing out their Valentine’s cards to one another in their decorated bags!

 IMG_2008IMG_2012IMG_2017IMG_2019

We then headed into the kitchen for a fun sensory Valentine activity. We put glue on our pre-cut hearts and then placed pink and white petals onto our hearts.

Happy Friday!

In K/PREK1 group, we read, ‘The Wild Toboggan Run’. Afterwards, children worked together to identify the characters, setting, and events. Children were curious about toboggans so we pulled up a video of toboggans at the Olympics as well as classic wooden toboggans!

Our art table was in full transformation mode this morning as it turned from a Valentines Day bag decorating center to a sensory playdoh experience!

Good Afternoon and Happy Friday! I hope you all have had a great week.

PLEASE NOTE: Monday, to help celebrate Valentine’s Day… It will be a pajama day, or if your child has a fun Valentiny outfit they would rather wear, that’s awesome too!

Today, as we are gearing up for Valentine’s Day, we decorated our bags. We used vibrant colored markers to make our bags look fun. We’re all pretty excited to share our Valentine’s Smile

Good Afternoon!

Evie practiced separating sets of a certain number into equal groups for her kindergarten sign in. For the first problem, she had to form three equal groups. Each group ended up having three stars in it. The second problem prompted her to create four equal groups that ended up having two circles in each group. As she made the groups, she checked her work by counting how many items were in group, making sure they were equal.

K.NS.10: Separate sets of ten or fewer objects into equal groups.

IMG_2170

After reading, ‘What Should Danny Do?’ in K/PREK1, we used greater than and less than signs with colored counters. I had Evie and P count out as many colored counters as they wanted. When they were done, Evie had 21 and P had 10. They quickly said that 21 is more than 10 so we put the correct sign in between the two groups.

Then, I set up a problem for them to solve. I had a specific number of counters and a sign. They had to figure out how many the other group should have to make the problem true!

K.NS.7: Identify whether the number of objects in one group is greater than, less than, or equal to the number of objects in another group.

IMG_2195IMG_2203

In PREK2, children matched mittens! On one mitten was the written number while the other mitten had an item configuration. Children matched the written number to the correct configuration.

IMG_2211

Several friends explored the new playdoh that was made a few weeks back. Tools such as rolling bins and scissors were used to manipulate the playdoh and form various creations like snakes and cookies!

I was scrolling through social media last night when this Teacher Tom post popped up. I read it and immediately thought of my early childhood experience to that of most children in the United States today. What children are expected to do has drastically changed but children are still the same! Curious. Inventive. Brilliant.

In this article, Teacher Tom shares his views on why early childhood experiences should be play based.

“The evidence tells us that early childhood education should focus on equity, happiness, well-being and joy in learning. This is what Finland has done by basing their educational model on childhood play, which is, again according to the overwhelming preponderance of research, the gold standard.”

Good Afternoon.

Emma and some friends were climbing on the habi-trail having fun with one another and Emma decided to play Peek-A-Boo through the bars of the habi-trail structure.

Paige was happily engaged in building with the duplo blocks today. She manipulated the blocks with much determination. She did a fantastic job getting the blocks to stick to one another so she could be a tall tower.

Yay, the temps warmed up so we could enjoy the snow and fresh air. Winter can be so much fun for us when the temps cooperate. Smile

Good Afternoon!

Evie dealt with greater than, less than, or equal to signs during her kindergarten sign in. She identified two numbers and had to determine which number was bigger. She chose the sign to put in between the two numbers. An easy way for children at this age to understand the concept is to use an alligator mouth; the alligators mouth always eats the bigger number!

K.NS.7: Identify whether the number of objects in one group is greater than, less than, or equal to the number of objects in another group.

IMG_1958

We read, ‘The Rabbit Listened’ in K/PREK1 which was a story about feelings emotions. At the end of the story, friends shared what they took away from the story: “The bunny listened to Taylor!” was a comment that I heard several times.

Afterwards, we talked about the characters, setting, and events that made up the storyline. Friends were eager to share their comments and answers!

K.RL.2.3: Identify important elements of the text (e.g., characters, settings, or events).

IMG_2037

In PREK2, children used popsicle sticks to identify which group had more and which group had less. They also talked about the phrase ‘equal to’ when dealing with two groups.

IMG_2043

Evie and Daniel explored the sketching books this morning. Children love the step by step directions that are easily followed, especially when it’s a challenging drawing! These types of books offer children assistance and guidance but also an opportunity for imagination.

Today we were all excited to dive into painting. We painted with our hands/fingers with purple, red and pink. This is our absolute favorite style of painting, as we can get our hands all messy! What a great sensory experience. Smile
