Happy Monday!

First reminder: Wee Friends will be closed on Friday, April 15th for Good Friday.

Evie and Mack were asked to draw a line from the number to the matching number word. Once they did this, they had to write a number and number word that wasn’t used in the problems above.

We read, ‘Froggy’s Lemonade Stand’ in K/PREK1 group. If you’ve read any Froggy story, you know they use a ton of various ending punctuation! We started off by identifying different punctuation marks in the story as well as talking about when each punctuation mark is used.

Afterwards, we read four sentences on the board. Children worked together to figure out what punctuation mark should be by determining if the sentence was a statement, question, or a heightened voice/excited statement.

K.W.6.2B: Punctuation- Recognizing and naming end punctuation.

In PREK2, children sorted food into specific categories such as fruit, vegetables, bread & grains, and meat.

Good Afternoon!

Yesterday, Evie and Mack worked with a pie chart to answer questions regarding a specific topic for their kindergarten sign in. Today, they used a graph to figure out how many children liked a specific fruit. They were able to follow the line on the graph to determine how many children liked bananas, strawberries, watermelon, or apples the most.

K.W.5: With support, build understanding of a topic using various sources. (Identify relevant pictures, charts, grade-appropriate texts, personal experiences, or people as sources)

IMG_3186IMG_3189

After we read, ‘What Do You Do With A Tail Like This?’ in K/PREK1 group, each child got an opportunity to come up to the chalkboard to complete a shape pattern! Before they came to the board, we identified the pattern first. Once they determined what shape came next in the pattern, they grabbed the correct colored pencil and proceeded to fill in the blank space.

K.CA.5: Create, extend, and give an appropriate rule for simple repeating and growing patterns with numbers and shapes.

IMG_4228IMG_4224IMG_4226

“What power do you want to have?”—what an awesome question!

Each PREK2 member got the chance to choose one of three powers they’d like to have. When they came to a decision, they filled in a piece of the pie chart with their answer. Looks like majority of the group chose mind control!

IMG_3241IMG_3245IMG_3252

We have a few different building materials in the science area: crystal climbers and magnets! A group of older boys explored both of these activities this morning before we went outside. There was an abundance of detailed creations with wonderful stories behind each creation.

Bo made a time changer out of magnets. He shared that as he spun it, he could make the time and day change to whatever he wanted!

IMG_3203IMG_3209IMG_3201

It has been glorious being able to go outside this week! Children got right back into the swing of things in our outdoor environment. We love the morning fresh air!

Welcome to March!

Evie and Mack used a pie chart for their sign in to answer questions surrounding our favorite pizza topping! The last question was, “How many friends were asked about their favorite pizza topping?”. They both were able to add 5 + 4 + 3 + 2 in their heads and come up with the correct answer.

K.W.5: With support, build understanding of a topic using various sources. (Identify relevant pictures, charts, grade-appropriate texts, personal experiences, or people as sources)

Last week, we talked about comparison words in K/PREK1 group. We used a scale to see how much every child weighed and today, we used a kitchen scale to measure items around the environment. There were seven items that we weighed but before we put them on the scale, we guessed how much each item may weigh.

We used the watermelon as our example. The watermelon last week weighed 18 pounds and the group decided that no item that we weighed today would weigh more than 18 pounds. Some of our guesses were really close!

IMG_4217IMG_4216IMG_4214

In PREK2 group, each child got a book about a different animal. They chatted about the animal book they had and with the help of Miss Kim, created a Venn Diagram that focused on what the animals ate. Children had to decide if their animal was a herbivore, carnivore, or omnivore.

IMG_3180IMG_3184

Mack and Evie built magnatile gems this morning! They used only triangles to create their gems.

IMG_3131IMG_3128

IMG_3148

Before heading outside, children took turns getting some energy out by jumping on the trampoline! It is our favorite inside gross motor activity!

IMG_3152IMG_3150

We were thrilled that the sprinkling subsided even for us to go outside. Children scattered throughout the yard, diving into various activities.

James, Millie, and Nesta played ‘family’. There was a dad, mom, and baby, They chatted about what they were making for dinner (stuffed peppers + pasta + muffins). Later on in their play experience, they pronounced that the mommy was pregnant and they were on the way to the hospital to have another baby! How wide our imaginations are! Smile
