Good Afternoon!

One of our friends will be celebrating his 5th birthday this weekend! We are so glad that we were able to celebrate with him a little bit early today! We’re sending you the biggest and loudest HAPPY BIRTHDAY that hopefully lasts all the way through the weekend!

Several teachers were able to take part in two Zoom professional development opportunities the last two weeks with Teacher Tom! The trainings were AWESOME and getting the see the man behind the blog was even more so.

As I was scrolling through his blog today, the first blog got my attention: ‘Eight in Ten Youths Believe The Adults in Their Lives Value Achievement Over Caring For Others’. What a striking (and sad) statement.

Early on in his blog post, Teacher Tom shared that, “Here’s the bad news: Approximately 80 percent of these same kids report that their parents and teachers are more concerned with achievement more than caring for others. The vast majority of America’s youth agree with this statement: “My parents are prouder if I get good grades in my class than if I’m a caring community member in class and school.””

“So what can we do? It seems like we need to spend more time talking to one another. I mean, most of us agree that we live in a society that needs more kindness and fairness. Our children value kindness and fairness. We know that life for everyone would be better with more caring community members.”

We have ongoing, daily conversations about kindness, empathy, and treating others with respect. Children are like sponges: they soak up and absorb anything they hear and see.

I’ve attached the blog post below!:

Happy Earth Day!

Today we read the book, The Tiny Seed by Eric Carle.  After reading the story, we helped Miss Annastecia plant some seeds and water them.  We are going to care for them and watch to see what happens and then use them to plant in our garden in the backyard.  We planted cucumber, red cabbage, sunflower and tomato seeds.

Good Afternoon!

This morning at breakfast Katherine worked on her hand-eye coordination, self-help and scooping skills to scoop up her oatmeal from her bowl and feed herself.

P4211550P4211547

We then engaged in a book and painting activity with Miss Annastecia.  She read us the book, Planting a Rainbow by Lois Ehlert. She gave us each our own little bowl of all the colors of the rainbow and several Q-tips that were taped together to use as our painting tool in our paint.  We all enjoyed using our bundle of Q-tips to spread the colors of the rainbow on our papers.

After painting, a friend requested the bear hunt song.  So, we acted out the motions of the song while listening to it.  We then read the story, We’re Going a Bear Hunt by Michael Rosen.

P4211587

After reading the bear hunt story we went over to our animals to see if we could find a bear?  We didn’t find a brown or black one like in the story, but we did find a polar bear. We used the polar bear to play a game with the plastic blocks.  Miss Bekah hid the bear under a block while the friends closed their eyes.  Each friend then was given a turn to guess which color block the bear was hiding under and pick the block up to see if their guess was correct. Friends were given the opportunity to hide the bear under a block as well.

Hello!

After we  read, ‘The Bears In The Bed and The Great Big Storm’ we all gathered in a circle in K group and talked about the four seasons that we have. Pictures were placed face down and each friend got a turn to pick one at a time. They looked at the picture and determined what season that activity would most likely go in. For example, one picture showed apple picking which we placed into the ‘fall’ category. We found that we had the most conversations about activities that could be in the spring or the summer.

It was quite the contrast in weather between yesterday and today. Kindergarteners had to write down two pieces of clothing that they would have to wear today that they didn’t have to wear yesterday. Most of the answers revolved around gloves and hats.

In PREK2 group, children charted the weather for today. Again, a big difference between yesterday and today!

Good Afternoon!  Today we worked on finding activities that we could engage our hands in useful and helpful ways. Teachers also gave friends positive encouragement of the use of their hands during the activities.

We used our hands for building with our stacking trains and Magnatiles…..

then headed into the kitchen to manipulate playdough and use a variety of tools with them….

P4201511P4201515

and finally headed out to the play kitchen to make some delicious foods to share with our friends.  A few friends were asking others; “ who wants a burger?,” in their play.

Paige engaged with our baby dolls.  She chose her baby from the basket, laid with her in the cube and made her baby dance.

Good Afternoon!

This morning we engaged in several activities with our musical shakers.  We shook our shakers while singing Shake Your Sillies Out.  We then moved our bodies by marching, jumping, and crawling around the front while shaking our shakers.  Lastly, we danced and shook our shakers to the Freeze Dance song and stopped shaking our shakers when we were told to ‘Freeze’ in the song.

After dancing, a few friends dumped the basket of snowballs. So, we decided to use them for a tossing game. We placed a piece of masking tape on the floor for us to stand on to toss our snowball from there, to practice tossing from a distance.  We also worked on our color recognition and  hand-eye coordination skills while tossing our snowball into one of the colored plastic blocks.

P4191466P4191462

We then headed outside to get some fresh air and enjoy our favorite activities.

Happy Monday!

What a perfect week to talk about weather! It looks like this week is going to have a little of everything!

After reading, ‘Mud Puddle’ in K group, we made a weather web where each child got to add one word to the web.

Science: K.3.5 Describe and give examples of weather changes and illustrate how weather affects people and the environment.

DSCN1869

During K sign, children drew a picture of their favorite weather! We had drawings of summer (with additions of the beach and bonfire), winter with snow, and winter with icicles.

DSCN1795

In PREK2 group, they started a chart that focuses on the daily weather. Each day this week, they’ll add the temperature and weather of that current day.

DSCN1863

Friends gathered at the art table to cut using scissors and drawing pictures. Franklin and several of his K friends explored the new dinosaur animal balance game. It requires a ton of patience which they remind each other of often Smile.

DSCN1763DSCN1783

We took advantage of our outside time this morning as it looks like winter will be gracing us with its presence tomorrow!
