Good Afternoon!

In K group, we read one of my favorite books: ‘The Mountain That Loved A Bird’. It was the perfect book to wrap up a week where we’ve been talking about plants and animals. If you haven’t read this book, put it on your list to grab!

In the middle of the story, a few friends knew how the story would end and shared by raising their hands. For a conversation starter this evening, ask you K kid about this book (it’s one of their favorites too!).

Science: K.4.2 Observe plants and animals, describing how they are alike and how they are different.

During the kindergarteners sign in activity, lots of laughs were had. They had to use a red and green marker while categorizing things that were living and things that were non living. One kindergartener laughed hysterically at the thought of MILK being alive!

Our PREK2 friends sorted animals into three categories: herbivore, carnivore, or omnivore!

The classroom sign in for today invited friends to add a drawing to the picture! They could add a plant, flower, or tree—we had lots of all three!

Millie, Maggie, and James worked together to build a car using plastic and wooden blocks. They were all using wooden blocks as phones and later on, they started taking a drink from a wooden triangular prism. When asked what they were drinking, we were told, “Sparkling water!”

Even though it’s been a little chilly the past few days, we welcomed the sunshine and enjoy our time outside this morning and later on in the afternoon.

Happy Friday!

We started our morning off with a dance party.  We listened and danced to several songs by Raffi.  Apples and Bananas, Baby Beluga and Mr. Sun to name a few.

We then headed into the kitchen to do some coloring under the table.  Miss Bekah taped some big pieces of white paper underneath the bottom of the sensory table.  She also found 2 pillows to rest our heads on.  We then laid on our backs and colored away. This activity helps them understand awareness of their space and see their drawings from a different perspective.

Good Afternoon!

Kindergarteners were introduced to a few popular trees as well as various leaves that can appear on trees. They chose a tree to draw and once they finished their drawing, they identified the various parts of the tree (roots, trunk, branches, leaves).

We chatted about how trees are similar to small plants/flowers such as roots soaking up water from the ground to feed the tree or plant.

Good Afternoon!

Our friends having been talking about trains this week.  They have been using the habitrail ladder to sit on and pretend they are riding on a train for a long time. So today, we used our imaginative play skills with Miss Annastecia.  We used our stools as train cars, thin wood blocks as tickets and wore dress up hats to turn us into Conductors while we read the book, The Magic Train Ride by Sally Crabtree.

We then made a train with our bodies with Miss Bekah by holding on to the friend in front of us while walking around the front area of the classroom.

P4141209P4141210

After that, we went into the kitchen to paint with our train cars.  Miss Annastecia made a train track on a big piece of paper with the question, “Where will your magic ticket take you?”  Some of the answers were; “jungle, underwater, and the most popular response was the train would ‘bring them to school.” We had a great time driving our painted wheels around the track.

Good Afternoon!

We read ‘The Tiny Seed’ in K group today which coincided with our activity/conversation starter. The Tiny Seed is a story about the cycle that a seed goes through before it gets settled into the ground where roots are started, leading into it becoming a plant!

Once the story was finished, we looked at a diagram of the plant life cycle and the specific steps a seed takes before it becomes an adult plant.

Kindergarteners completed their sign in activity which focused on the specific area in our classroom where we can find books about plants and animals (the science area!). Next, they had to write what genre these books belong to—everyone quickly responded “nonfiction!”.

DSCN1330DSCN1337

In PREK2 group, friends talked about specific habitats and what types of animals live in each habitat!

DSCN1409DSCN1404

Miss Kim set up an activity in the art area this morning that allowed us to move a body a little! In the bin, littles balls were placed with a piece of paper and a couple different paint colors. Once the bin was closed tight, they either sat down or stood up and shook the container which moved the paint and balls all around. All of the finished art pieces had various designs on it depending on how soft or hard the bin was shaken!

The sunshine greeted us as we headed outside this morning. A few friends camped out in the housekeeping area, using weeds from around the yard to add to their play. The rock area was a busy place as children worked together to fill trucks with rocks. We got the bikes out which is one of our favorite outdoor activities. We LOVE our balance bikes.

Happy Monday!

We read, ‘Kindness Grows’ in K group (it’s an AWESOME story). It elicited a ton of conversation, especially about the illustrators choices of shades and colors to tell the story.

Afterwards, we created a list of living and non-living things. Each child came up with an example for each category. We talked about the similarities and differences between the two groups.

Science: K.4.2 Observe plants and animals, describing how they are alike and how they are different.

For kindergarten sign in, children had to write down two things that animals need to survive as well as two things that plants need to survive. Once they wrote these things down, they looked to see if there was an answer they had for both plants and animals. Water seemed to be the most popular as plants and animals need water to survive.

DSCN1256

During PREK2, children chatted about plants and what makes plants special and unique!

DSCN1307

We spent a ton of time outside today, exploring and looking for bugs! With all of the rain we got this weekend, we were finding rollie pollies left and right!

Good Afternoon!

This morning a parent shared that one of our friends was really into books by Dr. Seuss over the weekend.  We only have the book, In A People House that our friends love.  So, we went to the other classroom and borrowed some of their Dr. Seuss stories for us to enjoy.

P4121064P4121067

We then enjoyed reading and acting out the book, There Were Ten In The Bed.  It is a Sing and Read Storybook by Scholastic, illustrated by Susan Chapman Calitri.  We used the big pillow from the reading area to pretend was our bed.  Each friend was given a turn to act out the rolling off the pillow part like the puppies do in the story while Miss Bekah sang the song.
