Happy Friday!

This morning we independently looked at books on the reading step or sitting on a big plastic block.

A friends was interested in engaging her gross motor muscles to do some hopping.  So we went over to the habitrail area and we each chose a big plastic block and began hopping/jumping off of them with her.

During outside time today, we took out 2 large pieces of white paper and crayons for all Wee Frienders to draw with crayons at the easel.  We filled both pieces of paper with our colorful drawing creations.

Good Afternoon!

We started adding to our character chart yesterday in K group and today, we added Charlotte and Templeton to our character list. We wrote beside the name the part in the story that the character plays. We were finally introduced to Charlotte today and it was quite the buildup for friends as we were reading!

There’s been several words that children have inquired about that they didn’t know the meaning for! We stop a few times each day as we’re reading to identify new words.

For kindergartener sign in, children have to write the setting of Charlotte’s Web so far. Most children wrote farm while a few others added Fern’s house that was at the beginning of the story.

The rest of our day was full of observing a few kindergarten children create books with detailed drawings and word to go along with their illustrations, extensive work on the building rug, and some fresh air earlier this morning.

Good Afternoon!

This morning was a water play/toy washing day.  We engaged in using our paint brushes, sponges and cup to pour warm soapy water on our toys to help clean them. Friends did some splashing and treasure hunting to find their paint brush hidden in the soapy water.  We had a blast!

We also noticed a bug crawling on our ceiling.  We enjoyed observing it even though it was too high for any of us to reach.

Good Afternoon!

We are on the third day of reading Charlotte’s Web in K group. We explored the main characters for our sign in activity. Children had to write the name of one character that has been identified and one thing that we’ve learned about them.

In group, we read another chapter and afterwards, we identified a few of the main characters so far and what their role is in the story.

With the humidity making it super warm in the morning, we decided to head outside much earlier than we usually do. We went outside right after breakfast which allowed us to still get some fresh air. We love having the ability to switch up our schedule to accommodate our friends needs.

Good Afternoon!

This morning we all created a foam shape collage.  We engaged our fine motor skills to spread the glue with a foam brush or squeeze it from the bottle.  Miss Bekah taught us a phrase; dot, dot, not a lot to help us remember to squeeze small amounts of glue from our bottles onto our papers instead of large amounts.  We all did wonderful using small amounts of glue to place our shapes onto.  We all made colorful foam shape creations.

Happy Monday!

In K group, we started reading, ‘Charlotte’s Web’. Chapter books like Charlotte’s Web offer detailed story telling without the pictures. We’ll read a couple chapters a day and recall the important events that happened that day. An activity like this helps children work on comprehension and identifying important events. The active characters and setting often change so these things authentically come up in conversation.

We are here! The last week of FAB’s for the school year. We are ending our FAB cycle by diving into maps: creating them and reading them. The kindergarteners drew a map of their bedroom, complete with doors, windows, a bed, and any other item they have in their room. As they drew the map, they talked about the placement of each item and where it is within their bedroom.

Social Studies: Create maps 2 dimensionally and 3 dimensionally.

Children were offered an art opportunity this morning that involved paint and canvas’s!

Friends used a variety of colors to paint their canvas. Some children chose to paint the entire canvas while others chose to paint a portion of it.

DSCN5595DSCN5601DSCN5591

The rest of our day consisted of children becoming invested in various activities and spaces in our environment. The weather prohibited us from going outside but that didn’t stop the kids from moving their bodies or asking for an activity that peaked their interest.
