Good Afternoon.

The Dramatic Play center was in full swing today! Caroline and Rowan are feeding and then burping their babies. We all love to put the babies in their sleep sacks as well when they are going to take a nap. It’s so much fun to ne a mommy!

Good Afternoon and Happy New Year. We hope you all enjoyed your Holiday season.

Everyone was very excited to be back at school to see their friends and teachers.

We got right back into the swing of things like we had not even been gone for two weeks. Reading, big blocks, habi-trail, dramatic play… you name it, we were engaged in it. Smile

Welcome back!

This week in K/PREK1, we’re diving into community helpers and how they are of importance to us. Today, we filled in three community helper squares and talked about what they do as well as any tools they may use to do their job.

Penny had shared, “I want to fight fires!”. This lead into a conversation about how each community helper has to get trained in their specific job and the skills it requires so that they stay safe and keep other people safe.

Social Studies: K.2.1 Give examples of people who are community helpers (inside the classroom and outside the classroom) and describe how they help us.

In PREK2, they read a few clues and had to come up with a specific community helper!

Children easily got back into their routine here at Wee Friends, anxious to see their friends and explore a few new items that they identified in the classroom.

The welcome activity allowed children to create faces using a variety of materials! One friend even found a way to display his glasses using the materials that were available.

Friends came in and immediately realized that there were new blocks in habitrail.

Miss Tami got us ‘Notch Blocks’, wooden blocks that hook together. Our imaginations were flowing as different groups of kids played with them throughout the entire morning. They are more stable as opposed to our other wooden blocks since they hook together, giving children a stable structure and endless opportunities!

We bundled up and went outside to feel the warm sun on our faces. Fresh air was just what we needed to end our morning!

Good Afternoon.

Caroline and Ellie worked hard most of their morning on creating magna-tile structures. While the girls were building, teachers heard conversations of how big their tiles were getting and how tall they were. We also heard conversations about the colors of the tiles.

Magna-tiles are a great multi function learning activity that all the kids just love. Math, science, color and shape recognition along with hand-eye coordination are all among the learning portion of the tiles. Children truly do learn through their play! Smile

Good Afternoon!

In K/PREK1, we always journal after our group session. Not only are our drawings becoming more detailed but children’s development of letters and letter sounds is growing quickly! Children are connecting letters to the sounds they make as well as realizing their words and writing are powerful! Connecting words to drawings is quite wonderful and intrinsically motivates children. After they finish their description,, we read it back and the effort they put into their words is very gratifying!

As Franklin was writing his description, he noticed a pattern in his writing: N-I-N (in NINGA OR NINJA) and A-T-A (ATAK OR ATTACK) “are patterns, Miss Mindy!”. Not only is Franklin’s confidence in his kid spelling growing but today, he noticed patterns and properties of his writing that he hasn’t identified until now!

Numbers have been a very hot topic as of late where children inquire about different numbers as well as addition problems. Grady and Penny dove into addition problems that they themselves came up with. They wrote the problems out and then worked together to find the answer. This wasn’t teacher driven: this was completely driven by these two kindergarteners and by working together, they completed several problems. Who knew working with numbers could be so much fun? Smile

DSCN7507DSCN7515

A friend had gotten out the rubber bands + boards and while children worked on placing rubber bands sporadically on the boards (as this is a challenging fine motor activity!), children took this opportunity to try and make letters! One friend created the letters that made up the word ‘EVIE’ while another friend created the first letter of his brothers name!

DSCN7551DSCN7539DSCN7541

Our new puzzles continue to challenge us! The 60 piece puzzles take us just a bit longer than the 48 piece puzzles and require more patience and problem solving. These are unique puzzles because on the outside of the puzzle are different items (animals, etc.) that you find once the puzzle is complete!

A few parents have asked: the new puzzles, which are ‘Mudpuppy’, can be found on Amazon! Smile
