Good Afternoon!

We spent most of our morning outside, enjoying the fresh air and warm sunshine. Thankfully, when we’re given a beautiful morning like this, we can call an audible and spend our morning outside where children still explore numbers and letters while engaging with their peers, undoubtedly working on their social and emotional skills.

As I was searching through Teacher Tom’s blog just now, I came across this blog post from back in December. We spent all morning outside so I wanted to see if there was a connection. Not only did I find a connection to our morning, but I found a connection to our days here at Wee Friends: our program in general.

While we are thankful for the FAB’s (Framework for Academic Balance) that help us integrate our literary and mathematical skills (among several other areas of cognitive development), the most important thing that we want children to take away at the end of each day is a passion for learning, curiosity, and an understanding of who they are and who they want to be.

I found the background Bhutan rather interesting! Hope you enjoy.

We LOVE our little hill! When we have out the toddler cars, all of our friends absolutely love speeding down the hill. Friends have all learned quickly how to get themselves into a slower speed getting closer to the bottom so they don’t bump into anything or fall over.

Happy Monday!

To start off our short week, Franklin started his own Musik Garten class back in habitrail. Franklin led the group by starting with rhythms using wooden sticks.

The art table was full of moving bodies and exploding imaginations. Several friends chose to make maps and when they were done, they rolled them up and looked through them. Children used scissors and glue which are both great fine motor activities.

Good Afternoon.

Today Daniel brought out our letter squares and started reciting many letters that he recognized. Evie then quickly joined in the letter fun and also started naming the letters she recognized. We then spelled out the names of all of our friends that were engaged in the activity. We had a great time going through the many letters, even the ones we didn’t quite know yet. We also took our fingers over the letters and traced them to get a better understanding of that specific letter.

Good Afternoon!

Non fiction dinosaur books in the science area are one of our most popular and most read topics. So, we channeled this into our new sensory bin!

Anytime a ‘new’ toy or activity makes its way into the environment, patience is often a word we use a lot. The morning message board was PERFECT for today as it talked about patience and different things we could do as we’re waiting for a turn.

At the sensory bin, four friends can engage in the activity at a time. Children do a great job at saying, “Hey ____, ‘so and so’ has left the bin if you still want a turn.” We had several children this morning waiting for a turn at the sensory bin so we referred to the morning message to see what we could do to remain calm and patient.

Anna and Penny got creative when trying to see how tall they were. They used a plastic block as the base and a wooden block to see where each of them came to on the orange plastic block. Soon, several peers was jumping in wanting to be measured.

A few older peers set up an ice cream stand down in the shade and our bug finders stopped searching for worms to ‘cool themselves off’!
