WF Monday 3/2 The Power of Movement

012

Children LOVE to move. Their natural tendency is to explore how their bodies work by jumping, balancing, twirling, crawling and moving all over the place! Movement is not only good for children’s bodies but for their minds as well. Movement activities help support their gross motor skills, help children practice following directions and build social skills such taking turns.

At Wee Friends we understand the power of movement and purposefully design movement activities to get our friends active and moving.

Friends also explored moving on the Blue Bus—practicing backwards rolls.

**Just as a reminder, WWF will be closed next Friday, March 6th for conferences.

Some big milestones are happening in Wee Wee land! Annabelle is getting ready to crawl while Anna is so close to walking! The longevity of standing all by herself is getting longer and longer!

AT HOME TOY UPDATE

We tried to roll back the at-home toys influx just a few weeks ago to make it work for both the kids and our environment.  However, since the at-home toys are still a struggle, we need to set some more strict guidelines:

Older non-nappers:  They may bring in a BOOK for quiet time.  NO other toys are allowed now.  The toys are continuing to overfill cubbies/backpacks and disrupt this quiet independent time as the at-home toys lend themselves to drawing a crowd of children together.

Napping children guideline remains the same: one quiet, small snuggly toy is ok.  Most have a WF snuggly already on their cot so it is unnecessary.

****Because our cubbies are small, we would strongly prefer that children do not bring in backpacks as they crowd out the other necessities that are big  like coats & snow pants.  If a backpack is necessary, please make it a small preschool child size.  WE DO STOCK RECYCLED PLASTIC BAGS IN THE TOP CUBBY RIGHT BY THE SIGN-IN SHEETS.  The bags work really well to take home itemsSmile

****If your child has snow pants that stay at WF, there is a bin in the front that you can use to store them rather than your cubby.

Hello!

We started this morning off with a little music time. Maya prompted us to dive into the musical aspect of play. Out of the blue, Maya started singing ‘Do-Re-MI’ from ‘The Sound of Music’. We found an audio recording of this and listened to it. Maya helped us out throughout the song by singing what parts of the song she knew.

“I don’t sing because I’m happy, I’m happy because I sing.”

Anna and David had a happy naptime. Anna loved clapping and trying to stand up on her own while David played with toys and blocks.

Today we played outside! For the long winter days when playing outside is not an option, we often integrate another sensory experience. Today it was Moon Sand. Other days it is Play-Do, shaving cream or warm sudsy water. Mindful sensory play calms and focuses the mind and imagination. It’s a way of experiencing the world through textures and temperatures. Friends sing and socialize and strategize.

Jessica invited friends to join her in a gross motor extravaganza! “Simon says…..be a dog!”

The hammock invites quiet observation. Swinging to and fro. Taking turns.

Good Afternoon!

Friends took turns this morning to paint at the easel. Maya was quite vocal when she wanted a new color. She let Miss Mindy know, “I want yellow, please.” A few friends stayed within a certain area of their paper while others took up the whole page.

While sitting at the lunch table, friends looked up at their paintings and we talked about the colors that we saw.
