Happy Friday!

–Just a reminder, that Wee Wee Friends is closed for Memorial Day on Monday, May 27th. We’ll reopen on Tuesday, May 28th. Thanks!

We ended our week with a nice walk around the neighborhood! It was a gorgeous morning so we took advantage of it.

029030

All of our friends were extremely verbal on our walk. They talked about what they heard and saw. As we passed some beautiful tulips, children pointed out different colors that they saw. There was a doggie in a backyard. As we were walking by, P.K. shouted, “Hi doggie! What are you doing? We’re going for a walk!” His other friends chimed in with multiple “Hi’s!” Daniel and Clara were excellent at pointing out birdies that we saw along our walk.

034

Our walks prove to be an excellent time for us to use our senses along with descriptive words for what we hear, see, and sometimes smell Smile.

032042

When we got back to Wee Wee, our friends headed to the backyard where P.K travelled around with older Wee friends looking for worms. He was successful. He went around scaring all of the teachers with it!

045046

For breakfast, children had whole wheat bagels with cinnamon and craisins. Lunch consisted of hummus on tortillas, peas, and watermelon. PM snack was yogurt and apples.

Have a great weekend!

WF Friday 5/3 Introducing……

“The world’s best acrobats on the earth.” – Jane

071

There were lots of wonderful things being learned today, but among the most joyful, was the acrobatics show that took place on the front porch. It began as Jane’s dance rehearsal, preparing a special Grandma’s Arrival Dance. As friends joined her and it grew, friends displayed their acrobatic, applauding, watching, taking turns, assisting one another, encouraging one another and announcing talents,  at great length.

075

In another part of the classroom, friends worked with bumblebee puppets.

001

Ada shared that she would be getting a sewing machine for her birthday. That led to a discussion about how puppets were made. We found our Muppet pattern and talked about what a sewing pattern was. Several friends decided to make a pattern.

034

And other friends hung around, working in their favorite areas, doing their favorite things to do.

012

As I write, friends are finishing their pretzels and yogurt snack, Lisa is painting fingernails and there’s a game playing gang getting going. Two friends are pretending to be Tami and Lisa. Marta just asked if I want to pretend to be her teacher. Hope your weekend gets off to a great start!

Wee Sprouts: Carrots. Breakfast: Oatmeal and orange slices. Lunch: Hummus on whole wheat tortillas, mixed veggies and watermelon.

NOTE FROM THE WEE GARDEN COMMITTEE!

The garden committee is in the planning stages for our backyard  summer gardens and will be working on them this weekend. They are looking for tomato plant donations. Contact Amy Crosson, Babooshki or Lindsay Chadderton for additional info!

WF Thursday 5/2 FARM!

183

This morning, in the classroom, friends created art using alphabet letters. 185

They gravitated to housekeeping and spent time there as well.

069

Our farmers were so happy to be back on their farm. They spent the morning visiting the animals, cleaning out the bird houses (and jumping off the stool!), exploring the pond, picking dandelions, imagining life in the log cabin and the house of roots, swinging on a rope, and finally, gently holding a baby chick.

135

Good times.

096

Wee Sprouts: Cucumbers. Breakfast: Cheerios and oranges. Lunch: Whole wheat sandwiches with turkey and cheese, corn and bananas. Snack: Peanut butter and graham crackers.

Thursday is the regular farm day and next Thursday, 5/9, we will take Group B: Jane, Arleigh, Elizabeth, Marta, Sloane, Marina and Eleanor. Have a great day.

Happy May!

**We’re asking parents if they could please bring in sunscreen for their child. Our collection is running out and we want to make sure that our friends are lathered in sunscreen! The sun was sure bright and beaming today so we made sure to have it on.

**Along with sunscreen, each child needs two or three outfits for the warmer weather (shorts/tshirt). Since the weather is getting nicer, we want our friends to be dressed appropriately. Please check you child’s bin in the bathroom to make sure they are set to go or ask a teacher. If you have any questions, please ask! Thanks Smile.

For breakfast, children had whole wheat bagel with cinnamon and banana. Lunch was rice with peas along with watermelon and garbanzo beans. PM snack was hard boiled eggs and pretzels.

Have a terrific evening!

WF Wednesday 5/1 Flower Power

061

Miraculous flower power. Over the last couple days friends have discovered that most fruits begin with a flower blossom. We got our plastic fruit counters out and started our day counting, sorting and creating fruit plates (and forks).

004

We created a creative drama/visual art experience that first explored the center of a flower. We created petals with our bodies. We listened to the Laurie Berkner Band sing “Bumblebee” and changed our bodies into bees with wings and tooshie stingers. We gathered nectar (art materials) and buzzed over to the art table to continue creating.

019

021

024

After we were buzzed out, the flower morphed into a railroad track, on the sea. Then a bridge.

038

A few of our friends are processing their new life experience (becoming a sibling!) by practicing getting their diaper changed.

063

074

The independent works today involved creating fairy wings, pencil sharpening, dish washing, working with fabrics, sequencing with Magna Tiles and a dinosaur card game. After lunch, Lisa’s small group read “The Noisy Summer Book” and Laurie’s, “Bug Safari”.

We’ve weeded our garden and are preparing the soil for more miraculous flower power.

Wee Sprouts: Carrots. Breakfast: Peanut butter on whole grain flatbread and bananas. Lunch: Brown rice with cheddar cheese and peas, and watermelon. Snack: Oranges and cheese slices.

Enjoy your day.

Happy Monday!

Have we finally seen the beginnings of actual spring/summer weather?! We sure hope so Smile. Hope everyone had a terrific weekend.

With the gorgeous sun shining, Wee Wee friends jumped into an art experience provided by Miss Laurie! The crayons were brought out so that friends could color outdoors! Between the two sites, we made a fabulous drawing!

011022

Daniel practiced writing his name while Emma drew vertical lines from the top of the paper to the bottom.

013021

For breakfast, children had eggs with cheese and craisins. Lunch consisted of turkey on whole wheat bread, pineapple, and mixed vegetables. PM snack was cheddar cheese slices and banana.

Have a terrific evening.

WF Monday 4/29 The 5 Food Groups

004

Ben brought in some foodie stickers that got us thinking about the Five Food Groups. While we created art (and rotated Blue Bus groups), we talked about foods that are in each group. We got our shopping carts out and first, shopped around, and then matched the food to the group on the poster.

002

Lisa quizzed friends about what food goes in what group.

009

Mel invited friends to a Still Life art exploration with carrots and a watermelon.

019

We got outside as quick as we could to enjoy this beautiful day. We examined our garden and noticed the rhubarb has come up. Finn reminded us who the parent boss of the garden is, and who the kid bosses are.

029

We created crayon art at our outdoor easel.

034

Wee Sprouts: Carrots. Breakfast: Whole wheat bagels and pineapple. Lunch: Turkey slices on whole wheat bread, mixed veggies and pineapple. Snack: Yogurt and raisins.

Have a great day.
