Good Afternoon!

Our PREK1 group came to complete their sign in activity where they were given a unique addition problem. They each solved their own equation and taped their equation under the total.

K.CA.1-2: Solve real-world problems, objects, or drawings that involve addition and subtraction within 10. Demonstrate the equation (e.g. 5=3+2 or 5=4+1)

Several kids have been enjoying the book series “Money Bunny” about saving earning and spending money.  We offered a market day activity so that kids could explore financial exchange through imaginative play.  Kids chose to be buyers or sellers.  In these roles, kids could practice counting out fruit and taking money from costumers, or counting money.  When all the fruit was gone it was “closing time” when the kids restocked and took their money to the “bank.”  This activity led to some great practice with “less than/equal/more than” as well as counting/number recognition.  Kids also did a great job using language to problem solve and exchange ideas adding to their verbal, social and cognitive development.

Happy Monday!

This morning we engaged in exploring the different sounds each of the items in each of the sound sensory tubes made as we moved the tube back and forth.

IMG_1768(2)IMG_1771(2)IMG_1774(2)IMG_1776(2)IMG_1779(2)IMG_1784(2)

We then headed into the kitchen to engage in the light table with translucent beads and plastic eggs.  We used our plastic egg halves to scoop up the beads and pour them from one plastic egg half to the other.  We also used our hands to spread the beads around and them pick them up and watch as they ran through our hands. Miss Bekah also talked to us about the different colors we saw as the light shown through the beads.

Good Afternoon!

Our PREK1 kiddos came to the sign in board this morning where they solved a simple addition problem. After adding 7 and 3 together, they found the number 10 and wrote their name under it.

Later on in group, we continued to work on adding as we read, ‘How Do You Spend?’. Throughout the story, the main character spends money on needs or wants and we added up the numbers as we went. We talked about the meaning of the following words: want, need, cheap, and expensive.

K.CA.1-2: Solve real-world problems, objects, or drawings that involve addition and subtraction within 10. Demonstrate the equation (e.g. 5=3+2 or 5=4+1)

Children were engaged this morning at the circle table as they explored patterns using unifix cubes. Arthur and Hannah used the gray tray to create a complex color pattern that required a lot of attention to detail as they found out took a lot of concentration while younger friends used the activity to work on their one to one correspondence skills and counting as well as fine motor skills as they hooked the cubes together.

Good Afternoon!

In PREK1 group today, we read ‘Sassafras’ which is a fiction story about a skunk named Sassafras. Throughout the story, Sassafras learned that his friends weren’t bothered by his smell as much as he thought. We wrote the title of the story as well as the characters, setting, and three events. Friends have loved working together this week filling in our chart!

K.RL.2.3: Identify important elements of the text (e.g. characters, setting, or events).

We spent most of our morning outdoors, coming in only for lunch so we could enjoy as much of the warm spring weather as possible.  We offered Wee Sprouts along with several outdoor activities to enhance play.  Several kids worked on large group water color paintings at our outdoor easel.  They did a great job practicing their social emotional skills as they asked to trade and shared colors!

IMG_2510IMG_9925IMG_2400IMG_2427

We offered imaginative play activities throughout the outdoor space.  Kids enjoyed finding ways to creatively use wood, sticks, rocks and bugs along with water trays.  They found they could use pieces of wood as boats for their bugs.  One friend decided to use the spiders to play “Anansi and the Magic Stick”.  In the story, Anansi’s magic stick creates a flood while he is sleeping, so the kids enjoyed playing out that narrative with their collected natural materials.  Using materials with no specific purpose pushes kids into high level cognitive, creative and executive function development as they find multiple solutions for every combination of items.

IMG_9924IMG_2460IMG_2504

Kids practiced their writing and spelling skills with side walk chalk as they prepared a game of “Stop, Go and Slow” for the balance bikes.

Breakfast: Puffins cereal with fresh apple slices.

Lunch: Brown rice with turkey, fresh watermelon/banana and fresh cucumbers/peppers.

PM Snack: Whole wheat crackers with peanut butter and sunflower/pepita seeds/raisins on top.

Wee Sprouts: Fresh cucumbers/peppers.

Have a wonderful night.
