Happy Friday!

In K/PREK1 group, we read ‘A Child’s Calendar’ which is a book that focuses on the months of the year. Each month has a few pictures as well as a description about things that happen in that month. For example, February talks about what the weather may look like as well as Valentine’s Day! At this age, children associate months with things that are important to them: birthdays and holidays mostly!

K.M.2: Understand concepts of time, including: morning, afternoon, evening, today, yesterday, tomorrow, day, week, month, and year. Understand that clocks and calendars are tools that measure time.

A lot of our friends have been interested in making books this week! They make several illustrations and when they’re done, they ask a teacher to staple the book together. After William and James finished their books this morning, they sat in the reading area and read each other their book.

While there may not have been any words, that didn’t stop them from giving great details about the characters in their story as well as events that occurred.

Children got the playdough out at the art table and the spaces quickly filled up! Playdough is one of our favorite sensory experiences.

Dr. Rowan was quite thorough with the checkups she gave her friends this morning! She checked everyone’s ears, administered shots, and checked to see if there were any broke bones. One friend shared that they get a little scared at the doctor so Dr. Rowan gave them some water to help calm their mind.

“It is a happy talent to know how to play.”

Good Afternoon!

Mack and Evie had to answer two questions for their kindergarten sign in: “What do clocks tell us?” and “Write one thing that you see on a calendar.” They each were able to answer these questions using kid spelling!

K.M.2: Understand concepts of time, including: morning, afternoon, evening, today, yesterday, tomorrow, day, week, month, and year. Understand that clocks and calendars are tools that measure time.

IMG_2536IMG_2532

We read, ‘Croc Around The Clock’ in K/PREK1 which is a story focused on clocks. It helped as we transitioned into our activity where each child was given a time and they had to move the two hands on the clock to make that time.

K.M.2: Understand concepts of time, including: morning, afternoon, evening, today, yesterday, tomorrow, day, week, month, and year. Understand that clocks and calendars are tools that measure time.

Good Afternoon.

One of our two year old friends asked Miss Annastecia if we could paint today? That is right up Annastecia’s alley, so she found us a very cool and unique way to paint. We used two of our large big blocks, placed a piece of paper cut to size and then rolled our sensory balls in the block to make very neat patterns.

IMG_2233IMG_2238IMG_2242IMG_2227

Miss Mindy came for a short visit this morning and read a story to some of us. We LOVED having her visit and read!

IMG_2259 (2)

We then listened to teacher stories. Miss Bekah found some books down in the basement that we haven’t heard. Our “new” books were very good! We loved them.

Good Afternoon.

Today, friends pulled out the colorful big blocks, lined them up and then sat on them pretending to be a choo choo train. We then turned on a favorite train song of ours and pretended we were on a journey and we went to many different places. What a great wat to use our imaginations.

Good Afternoon!

For kindergarten sign in, Mack and Evie had to place four specific scenes from ‘The Little Mouse, the Red Ripe Strawberry, and the Big Hungry Bear’ into the order in which they occurred. First, we read the authors words aloud before Mack and Evie tried placing them into the correct order. They both got it on the first try!

K.1.4: Identify and order events that take place in a sequence.

IMG_2363IMG_2364

We read, ‘The Sandwich Swap’ in K/PREK1 group, which is one of our favorite stories in our MACK collection. This week, our focus is on friendship and how to identify how to be a good friend. Once the story was over, we talked about concepts of time. We worked with three categories: one second, one minute, and one hour. There were several activities that we read aloud and decided as a group what category each activity should go in! When we were done, friends immediately said, “Each group has equal cards!”

K.M.2: Understand concepts of time, including: morning, afternoon, evening, today, yesterday, tomorrow, day, week, month, and year. Understand that clocks and calendars are tools that measure time.

IMG_4016

In PREK2 group, Miss Kim read, ‘The Mitten’. Afterwards, children worked together to put the animals in order depending on when they went into the mitten!

Good Afternoon.

We had a very busy day today! Just what we like. Smile

We were all happily engaged in our puffy painting activity. The colors were pretty pastels and full of fluff! We used pink, purple, green, yellow, orange and grey.

IMG_2122IMG_2134

IMG_2127IMG_2138

We then listened to many interactive songs that we could get our bodies movin” and groovin’ too.  Since most days we are unable to get outdoors, this type of activity is a great way to get some exercise and quicker body movements. Not to mention, we just love to dance and listen to music.

Paige and a friend are having fun engaging in the shape house activity. They will take their shaped object and find the spot where that specific shape piece fits into the house.

IMG_2155IMG_2154

Then, their friend, Emily decides to join n the fun.

IMG_2156IMG_2157

Breakfast: Whole grain Cheerios and apples.

Lunch: Whole wheat bread with hummus, broccoli and oranges and strawberries.

Snack: Whole wheat English muffins with butter and cinnamon.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

We read, ‘101 Dalmatians’ in K/PREK1 group. Afterwards, each group member got one illustration from the book. We all formed a circle and shared the illustration that everyone had. Together, they worked to put the illustrations into the order in which they occurred in the book!

K.1.4: Identify and order events that take place in a sequence.

IMG_3998IMG_4004IMG_3998

It was all about self love and showing others love today! An art activity was set up at the art table where children used various paint colors to dot their paper heart using an eye dropper. Once they were done, they folded the heart into half to make prints on both sides.

While they were doing this activity, Miss Annastecia was writing down things that children loved about themselves. Some answers were:

“I am beautiful.”

“I am a good big brother.”

“I am helpful.”

“I have a kind heart.”

It can be challenging for children to show self love as well as  talking about what characteristics or personality traits that make them who they are. But after talking about things that we can love about ourselves, most children were able to come up with an amazing example!

Happy Valentine’s Day! I hope you are all having a great day.

Today, friends were VERY excited about handing out their Valentine’s cards to one another in their decorated bags!

 IMG_2008IMG_2012IMG_2017IMG_2019

We then headed into the kitchen for a fun sensory Valentine activity. We put glue on our pre-cut hearts and then placed pink and white petals onto our hearts.

IMG_2024IMG_2027

IMG_2043IMG_2051

We then took our heart boards and placed colorful pegs into the holes. This activity helps us with our hand-eye coordination and our color recognition skills.
