Good Afternoon!

This morning, we got into our “boats” and listened to some stories that Miss Bekah read to us! We started by reading “Row Row Row your Boat” then some friends asked for books that  they wanted read.

IMG_3808IMG_3806IMG_3804

Then, we went into the kitchen and explored loose parts-color beads with a pipe cleaner to string the beads on and a pattern card to match the colors.  The younger friends found they could tap the beads together to make a loud sound.

IMG_3822IMG_3819IMG_3818IMG_3817IMG_3815IMG_3811IMG_3809

We also swumg on our swing today! Each friend got a turn to lay on the swing while Miss Bekah gently pushed the swing.

Good Afternoon!

We circled back around to patterns this morning for our PREK1 sign in. Children came to the board where they found their name and identified their pattern. When they came to the end of their pattern, they said aloud what came next. Some friends had to take color into consideration when finishing their pattern while others took color and shape into consideration. Not only were children able to explore patterns but we also worked on shape identification.

K.CA.5: Create, extend, and give an appropriate rule for simple repeating and growing patterns with numbers and shapes.

This morning, we continued working on our leaf book project.  Friends that made their pages yesterday, worked on the cover today.  We had some questions about what to title the book.  We looked at examples of books in the classroom and noticed how the title and the pictures on the front of the book tell us something about what is going to be inside the book.  We thought of our own titles that would give the reader some idea about what the book would be about.  We did the same with our illustrations.  Other kids who had not started their book, created their pages today.

PREK2: During group today, we read the story “Patty’s Pumpkin Patch”.  After the story, we came up to the board to decide if we would like to pick a large or a small pumpkin.  Some friends were even able to express why they preferred a certain size.  One friend shared that he would choose a small pumpkin because he would like to be able to pick it up!

Happy Tuesday!

This morning, we played on the habitrail! All the friends took turns running along the habitrail and going down the slide. A friend also climbed up the ladder and looked down to her friends below.

Good Afternoon!

One of our favorite topics to talk about is food and what food we’re having each day. Today for our PREK1 sign in, children wrote their name under their favorite fruit. They had six different fruits to choose from.

We took this information and placed it onto a graph so that we could look at the information at a deeper level. We found out that zero friends identified apples as their favorite while cantaloupe and pears were our favorites because both fruits were tied with two votes.

K.W.5: With support, build understanding of a topic using various sources. (Identify relevant pictures, charts, grade-appropriate texts, personal experiences, and people as sources).

One of our students got very interested in the differences between leaves he was picking up in the yard yesterday afternoon.  Today we leaned into that interest since there are several kids noticing the leaves.  To begin investigating the leaves further, our oldest kids started a leaf book this morning.  Each friend went out to collect as many different leaves as they could.  We got out a magnifying glass and looked carefully at the leaves to find which ones were of the same species.  We looked at shape.  We learned about a “serrated edge versus a smooth edge”. Next, we glued each kind of leaf to a page and used our kid spelling to write what kind of leaf was on each page.  We will make a title page and put our leaf books together when they are dry!

IMG_2760IMG_2772IMG_2784IMG_2774

At the round table, we worked on making patterns with our unfix cubes.  We looked for different patterns in the book to make and children tried repeating the patterns.  Some of our older friends discussed other ways to make patterns, like when we write we could alternate colors to make a pattern, or we could alternate words to make a pattern of words!  What deep learning was taking place today!

IMG_1205IMG_2759

Outside, many of us enjoyed raking leaves and using a leaf blower to get some fall yardwork done!

Good Afternoon!

This morning we engaged in a variety of activities.  Several of us built with Magna-Tiles with Miss Bekah, built with Duplos on the shelf, interacted with baby Diana, built with Interstar Connectors while sitting on Miss Bekah’s lap and making music on the pianos.

  • IMG_3667IMG_3671IMG_3664IMG_3668IMG_3666IMG_3682IMG_3687

We then headed into the kitchen to build with pegs in our peg boards.  The friends worked at filling all the holes in their peg boards and making peg towers.

IMG_3689IMG_3690IMG_3693IMG_3694IMG_3692

We then headed outside.  We were busy going down the slides, riding the teeter totters with a friend and pushing and riding bikes up and down the hill and working on our balance skills on the balance bikes.

Good Afternoon!

We kicked off our week by starting to talk about patterns! All of our PREK1 friends came up to the board where they identified the pattern of square, circle, square, circle, square, _______. Children wrote their name under what shape came next.

The welcome tuff tray activity allowed friends to use their imagination as they were able to build with a large collection of wooden blocks. Small animal figurines were also made available in the tuff tray.

Arthur made a wooden block castle as he continued adding new blocks to it. It was wonderful to see Arthur put his plan into action!

Happy Friday!

This morning a friend noticed a seed pod hanging from a plant and asked if it was a tomato.  It was round like a tomato but was dry and small.  We opened it and found it was full of seeds.  We talked about how the flower on this plant had become a seed pod after it was pollinated.  After that, several kids searched for different types of seed pods around the outdoor area.  We found there were Rose of Sharon seed pods, money plant seed pods and milkweed pods.  We brought our seeds to the deck to spend time opening the pods and collecting seeds.  We talked about how they were the same, how they were different and what kinds of plants they could grow into.  It was a wonderful child lead science project!

Good Afternoon!

We took a trip to the farm today where we used the word ‘quality’ when doing a chore in the barn. Farmer Charlotte had asked us to clean the barn floor that was covered with loose hay. We were tasked with sweeping the hay into the stall for the horses to eat! Farmer Charlotte had been talking about ‘quality help’ just as we walked into the barn so we talked about doing “quality work” and what that meant. As Hannah swept, she said, “I’m so excited to share with Farmer Charlotte all of the work that we did!”. We were able to see brand new baby mice that were less than 24 hours old! It was the perfect mix of productivity and relaxation.
