Good Afternoon!

Friends took to the kitchen this morning to paint. Lucy, Nahla, and Tate worked for quite some time using different colors of paint. Tate enjoyed painting his hand and then transferring the paint to the paper.

After naptime, we learned about static electricity. Friends took the capes and put them over their head. When they took them off, we noticed that their hair would stick straight up!

We met our newest friend today! David will be six months soon. He visited with his mommy so that he could get acclimated this afternoon. Annabelle welcomed David and they spent some time on the floor together. They should become great friends since they are only two days apart! Smile

Have a fantastic night!

WF Tuesday 1/6 “Guess What?”

002

It’s a question that many friends begin with before they share information. “Guess What?” gives us information about the motivation behind Wee Friend initiated works. It gives us insight into how friends make personal connections in the classroom: “I flew on an airplane one time!” So Guess What? When we placed plastic ants in a sensory bin filled with rice, we had no idea that the colony cones we made would eventually become maracas or binoculars. And guess what? It’s totally how our Wee days unfold.  We are listening and engaging and following our friends as they create. And guess what else? It’s a super great way to learn. Have a great day. –Laurie

PS: Guess What? The Purple Porch Co-op brought us red bananas! Super cool!

For breakfast, children had toast with butter and cinnamon along with apples. Lunch consisted of whole wheat noodles with kidney beans, apples, and corn. PM snack was Colby Jack cheese and blueberries.

Have a great night!

WF Monday 1/5 Welcome

A Wee Welcome to 2015 and a Wee Welcome to Saskia, our newest Wee Friend. How happy we are that both have arrived.

027

We’ve spent the day reacquainting ourselves with one another. We implemented Literacy FAB K.1.9 (Record information using objects and pictures) to hear vacation (and original!) stories. First,  Jessica invited friends to create story dice and tell stories (a few of our friends narrated sequentially: beg/middle/end) about the pictures they saw on the dice. We also played a Seasonal Matching game in which friends first told the story of what they saw on the card and then matched it to the appropriate corresponding cup.

017

And as is always the case, stories unfolded in the work friends created independently and with one another.

Our 2015 story has a happy beginning!

Enjoy the sunshine. –Laurie

*Reminder: Our Christmas Concert is tomorrow, 12/19 at 4:30 p.m. The concert will last approximately 10 minutes.

Today was a busy day for our Wee Frienders! We spent the morning writing, sorting, listening, and experimenting.

008 002

Melinda serenaded us with some beautiful holiday songs on her accordion! Friends were excited to play the instrument themselves.

                               027035  029

Later, we gathered for an exploration of what happens when you mix oil and colored water. Using eye droppers, friends carefully dropped colored water onto their plates of oil. We discovered that oil and water don’t mix! Friends were deliberate and focused in their work, experimenting with mixing colors and practicing gross motor skills.

We also practiced for our concert. Hope to share our songs with you tomorrow!

Happy Wednesday!

Friends grabbed pillows this morning and snuggled up to read stories. A couple of our favorite books are becoming quite prominent. Tate loves a book about a gingerbread baby. Towards the end, he has a favorite part and every time it comes to that page, he says it right away: “Ha-ha he-he, I’m the gingerbread baby!”

IMG_2932IMG_2933

When lunch was brought over, friends gathered at the gate. Ya think they were hungry? Smile

IMG_2951IMG_2952

Anna crawled up next to Annabelle and chatted with her. Annabelle thought this was quite funny because the tinniest laugh came out of her!

IMG_2954

Maya was quite focused this afternoon. For about thirty minutes, she sat with a couple phones, a bottle, blanket, and baby. She would feed the baby, talk on the phone, and wrap the baby up. She was extremely into her play.

IMG_2957IMG_2959

For breakfast, children had oatmeal with honey and banana. Lunch consisted of ham and cheese on tortillas, broccoli, and crushed pineapple. PM snack was black beans and whole grain bunny crackers.

Have a terrific evening!

Happy holidays, happy holidays
While the merry bells keep ringing
May your every Wee’s wish come true

Happy holiday, happy holiday
May the calendar keep bringing
Happy holidays to you.

If you’re burdened down with trouble
If your nerves are wearin’ thin
Park your load down the road
And come to the Wee Inn.

If the traffic noise affects you
Like a squeaky violin
Kick your cares down the stairs
Come to the Wee Inn.

Happy holiday, happy holiday
While the merry bells are ringing
May your every wish come true

Happy holiday, happy holiday
May the calendar keep bringing
Happy holidays to you!!!
