Good Afternoon!

Shapes was the main topic of our PREK1 sign in this morning! Each group member got to blindly choose a shape from a bag, identify it, and match it to the same shape on the sign in board. Inevitably, we always have younger peers standing around, watching sign in take place. Our friends who are signing in always do such a great job at sharing things like, “This is called a hexagon—it has six sides.”

K.4.1: Identify and describe geometric objects: circle, triangle, square, rectangle, diamond, trapezoid, hexagon, octagon, parallelogram, sphere, and cube.

IMG_0021IMG_0008IMG_0001

This morning we worked on making shapes using rubber bands and peg boards.  Some of us made individual shapes and we identified the shapes they made.  Others made larger creations like an airplane or a guitar.  As we looked, we found that there were shapes we could identify within the creation.  The body of the airplane made a rectangle.  The shape of the guitar turned out to be a triangle.

We explored a color matching activity this morning using colored water and colored lids.  We collected water with spoons or eye droppers and tried finding the lid of the same color.  We helped as a group to identify all of the colors we would need on the table so all of the different lids would have a corresponding water pitcher.  Later, friends wanted to mix the colors so we let them explore openly!

Good Afternoon!

We’ve been talking about rhyming words this week in our PREK1 group. Children worked to find the rhyming word for DOG: either FOG or CAT.

K.RF.3.1: Identify and produce rhyming words.

IMG_9993IMG_9994

This is a group of kids that loves mixing up experiments.  We created an experimental mixing tray for them this morning.  We set out little cups of water, shaving cream, chia seeds, paint and corn starch.  The kids could use a spoon to try different combinations of the ingredients with open exploration.  The kids had the idea to trade spoonful’s of their own color for spoonful’s of someone else’s.  We got to practice some etiquette as we remembered to ask, then wait for an answer as well as the give and take of trade.

IMG_9688IMG_9729IMG_9715IMG_9712IMG_9733

We had a child lead project begin in the art center today.  One of our friends wanted to make an airplane out of paper.  Folding the paper was a little complicated, so she was willing to try using pieces of paper and straws, then putting them together to make an an airplane.

Other friends continued exploring shapes in other parts of the classroom.  Arthur made a castle using triangles made into squares as well as triangles made into larger triangles!

Good Afternoon!

We would like to wish Miss Audrey well as us getting married on Wednesday, September 10th and then on her honeymoon.  She will be returning Thursday, September 25th.  While she is away Miss Ashley will cover and Miss Tina will be back to help cover Tuesday –Thursday afternoons for the latter part of the day until close.

This morning Miss Audrey brought out the sheer curtain for us to crawl and walk through.

IMG_1254IMG_1256IMG_1261IMG_1266IMG_1281

We then headed into the kitchen to engage with our loose part wooden shapes and animals.  Some of us were stacking our shapes together, while others were using their imaginative play skills with the animals.

IMG_1292IMG_1295IMG_1299IMG_1306

We then headed outside and spent some time drawing and painting! We started by painting with water on the stepping stones, then some friends moved to the table and drew with chalk. We also explored the log house.

Happy Monday!

Our PREK1 kiddos kicked off the week by talking about shapes! Each group member came to the sign in board where got a chance to pick a shape, identify it, and then write their name in the shape.

Later on in group, we read ‘One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish’ in PREK1 group. It allowed us to start to talk about rhyming words in a natural way. Friends immediately started raising their hands, sharing examples of rhyming words such as humpty and dumpty!

K.4.1: Identify and describe geometric objects: circle, triangle, square, rectangle, diamond, trapezoid, hexagon, octagon, parallelogram, sphere, and cube.

K.RF.3.1: Identify and produce rhyming words.

IMG_9987IMG_9979IMG_9988

This morning we explored shapes in a variety of ways.  At the round table, we tried making shapes out of popsicle sticks and clothes pins.  We could make triangles and squares, or we could create our own shapes.  There were a lot of three dimensional ideas as the kids realized they could balance the clothes pins on end.

IMG_9561IMG_9592

In the art center, we created paintings using stencils and stamps in the shapes of circles or squares.  Many of us tried both stations.

IMG_9570IMG_9582

IMG_9587IMG_9583

At the light table, we found ways to put squares, rectangles and triangles together to create new shapes.  Hannah helped set the shapes out and asked if we could used triangles along with the squares and rectangles so she could make a house.  We thought that was a great idea!

Today we danced with the dancing scarves to Shake Your Sillies Out and acted our the See The Bunnies Sleeping song.

IMG_1110IMG_1112IMG_1113IMG_1129IMG_1122IMG_1133

We then headed into the kitchen to paint with rough sponges.  In addition to the sponges, several friends used their fingers to explore their paint and finger marks across their papers.   We used blue, red and yellow tempera paint and create new colors when mixing the colors together with our fingers or sponges.

Good afternoon!

This morning, we brought out the plastic color rings and played with them while listening to music! We spread them out onto the floor, and danced to Sleeping Bunnies together while a couple friends used the rings as necklaces.

IMG_0993IMG_0988IMG_0979IMG_0984IMG_0995

Then, we went into the kitchen to engage with our pegs and peg boards. We all were given a bowl of rainbow pegs and our choice of the shape of board. On our boards, we filled each hole and stacked the pegs! A couple friends did more than one board, and once the others were done, one friend gathered up the pegs into three bowls.

IMG_1017IMG_1029IMG_1034IMG_1039IMG_1024IMG_1016

Once we were done with the pegs, we went over to the habitrail area and engaged with balls and the BounceBlocks. We worked on throwing and catching the ball with Miss Bekah. Once we were done with the balls, one friend grabbed our BounceBlocks  to make a stack to sit on while another stood on one at the balance beam.
