Happy Monday!

This morning, we offered a literacy activity at the round table.  We added the names of classmates along with last names for older friends along with letter tiles so kids could choose to work on learning their own names or the names of classmates.

We spent most of the morning outdoors soaking in the fresh air!  We ran in the snow, went sledding, shoveled snow and used a multitude of gross motor muscles in the process!  What great exercise!

Breakfast– Whole wheat toast with cream cheese and fresh pears.

Lunch– Whole wheat pasta with shredded pork, fresh mango/pineapple/watermelon, and fresh pepper/green beans.

PM snack– Whole milk yogurt with fresh apples.

Wee Sprout– Fresh cucumber/pepper/green beans.

Good Afternoon!

This morning, we spent lots of time up front playing with Magnatiles, Little People and Interstar Connectors.

We then headed into the kitchen to engage in the light table with the translucent beads.  We added small animals and plastic egg halves to enhance our experience and use to scoop up the beads.

Breakfast:  Whole grain Cheerios and fresh pear slices.

Good Afternoon!

We made playdough this morning and talked about what we would do with it.  Some of the kids had a discussion while the playdough was being made.  It was decided that several friends wanted to “make birthday cakes”.  We added some extra items like beads and colored popsicle sticks in order to enhance the play.  Kids made all sorts of creative and interesting cakes.  They found innovative ways to use the new materials.  Some used the sticks for birthday candles while others found they could be used as structural support to hold multiple layers of “cake”.  This creative problem solving lead to all sorts of interesting cake shapes!

After so much indoor time, everyone needed to move their bodies and exercise those big gross motor muscles!  Several friends wanted to make an obstacle course, so we put together a “balancing tape” challenge.  Kids tried to follow the tape in lines and zigzags, then jump to X’s on the floor.  We added some foam stepping stones for an extra level of difficulty!

Happy Monday!

This morning, we danced around the circle to “We All Fall Down,” then explored musical instruments together!

In the kitchen, we engaged in painting using blue, red and yellow tempera paint and a brush to fill our papers full of those colors and mixing them together to make new colors.
