Happy Monday!

This week, we’ll be focusing on the following FAB:

Social Studies: K.4.1 Explain that people work to earn money to buy the things they want. Introduce money names and values.

In K/PREK1, David and I read ‘Those Shoes’ which focused on the main character wanting a specific type of shoes but they were too expensive: a want versus a need. Afterwards, we took turns coming up with things that we buy that require money.

In PREK2, friends identified various coins and their names. Children discussed the physical characteristics of each coin.

For our Facebook live activity, Miss Annastecia read ‘Good People Everywhere’ which talked about the similarities and differences of people. One of the things that we learned about was how houses are different. We took this knowledge to the art table where friends used a variety of materials to create their own house!

Happy Friday!

We ended out our week in K/PREK1 by taking turns choosing a piece of paper, identifying the tool pictured, and coming up with a job that uses that tool!

Friends came to the art table this morning to decorate a pinecone of their choosing. Once they picked a pinecone, they attached a pipe cleaner to it and added beads. Then, they had the option of painting the pinecone. We’re anxious to display these in the classroom!

Even though it was cooler today, we still enjoyed getting outside to get some fresh air. Yesterday, we made the chalk available and because of the interest level, it was used all morning as well! David and Grady took their chalk and drew X’s all over the backyard environment. They gave everyone a heads up that the X’s couldn’t get stepped on!

Happy Friday! I hope you all have had a great week.

Today we engaged in a fun activity that can help us learn multiple skills.

We found the first letter of our names, and then glued them to our paper.

We utilized or fine motor skills, color and letter recognition as well as our hand-eye coordination skills.

We LOVED this fun activity.

Good Afternoon!

A friend in our K/PREK1 group who is at home has been fascinated with tape measurers this week so today, we focused on this tool and what different professions use this tool to do their job. After coming up with builder, we had a hard time coming up with another job until Grady shared, “My dad! When things break in the house, he uses one to measure the length of it. He’s great at fixing things like that!”

After we read our book, we used the tape measurer to measure several things including our arm length and our book we read for group.

Our friends have SO enjoyed helping teachers with our live videos. They love the fact that their parents and friends get to see them throughout the day.

Today, musical instruments were brought out which lead to a conversation surrounding different jobs such as musician and music teacher (like Miss Melinda, a friend shared!). We listened to a few songs from the Lion King and used various musical instruments to add to the music.

Good Afternoon.

This morning we had another great zoom session. We are all so happy to be able to continue with our sessions and see our friends. It’s the best!

What a gorgeous day we are having! Too bad it’s not going to continue.

Nesta has found a new outdoor activity that she spent almost the entire time engaged in. She would get her little feet moving quickly to stay ahead of the big kids and their bike riding.

Good Afternoon!

In K/PREK1 group, we read a few pages in ‘Here and There’, a book that dives into different cultures and ways of life in various countries. Today, we focused strictly on grocery stores and how they look different depending on where you live.

After reading the first page, we made a list of the grocery stores around us that we know of. I asked Grady and David how their family got groceries while they were home and they shared the store that their family shops at the most. David shared, “Oh that one store where I get donuts…Rise N’Roll!!” This started a conversation about the differences between restaurants and grocery stores.

Did you know?

In Indonesia, they have ‘floating markets’ on the river where people sell fruit, veggies, and flowers that they have grown!

Several friends joined Miss Annastecia’s yoga session and were fantastic demonstrators! Many children are interested in the Lion King and the characters that are in the story so Miss Annastecia chose to read a lion story which paired well with lion yoga posses!

The interest in lions also lead into an art activity this morning where children used various manipulatives to make their own lion mask! They all looked very different and unique!

Welcome back!

This week, our FAB focus is:

Social Studies: K.4.2 Identify and describe different kinds of jobs that people do and the tools they use.

In K/PREK1, we read ‘Goodnight, Goodnight, Construction Site’. Before reading the story, we looked at the cover and came to the conclusion that it was a fiction story because real dump trucks don’t have eyes. I asked the question, “What do real dump trucks look like and how do they work?” Grady shared that people operate trucks like that which lead into our discussion after the book was finished.

We made a web where we added the tools that construction workers use as well as duties that they have.
